I love the small, but growing shift in the Thanksgiving holiday that puts more emphasis on “Thanks” and “Giving” than seeking out the best bargains. It reminds me to reflect on the goodness and gifts I’ve experienced this past year, and then to use that gratitude to power paying it forward.
This past week I was fortunate enough to share not one, but two Thanksgiving dinners – one with family and one with people who have become family. I was especially grateful that I didn’t rip a hole in the turkey pan and start a grease fire (which might have happened the last time my mom entrusted dinner to me…9 years ago) and that no one “wanted” gravy since I totally forgot to make it.
One fire I did get to stoke burned quality calories with some of my favorite people as there is no better way to show gratitude to your body than by making it sweat! I loved starting my Saturday run with our No Boundaries group and finishing it with the 10k crew. I also squeezed in a CrossFit class with both my oldest and newest CT friends, and a run with my sister to celebrate her birthday. She got a special “gift” when a bird pooped on her head…that means good luck, right?!!
I did have to work, but all weekend long I was reminded of how lucky I am to be surrounded by an amazing staff who breathe life and energy into the store. They work hard to make shopping at Fleet Feet worth the trip - whether it's providing useful advice, expertise, motivation, a high-5 or a hug. I love how much they care about you…and I love how much you care about Fleet Feet. I am truly thankful for your support – not just on Small Business Saturday, but all year long.
Shop local is not just a hashtag. Your investment and involvement in the store make a huge difference to me, my staff and our community. Because of you, we were able to help donate nearly 500 pairs of new sneakers to some fabulous kids in New Britain, provide a scholarship of $10,000/year for four years to a deserving college student who might not otherwise be able to afford school, give over 1,500 shoes and foot care to the homeless through our Footwear with Care program and support countless other local organizations and people.
On this "Giving Tuesday", I give thanks to our vibrant, generous running community who makes our world a better place – and wish you a year full of delicious food, good friends and endorphin-filled workouts*!

My 4 year-old enjoyed this chili so much he ate it three nights in a row...and asked me to make it again. The quinoa blends in really well with the traditional chili flavors. Make a big pot and enjoy it yourself! Get the recipe here.
